How the calculation works
Flooring is sold in packs that each cover a set area. The calculator takes your floor area, allows extra for cutting and waste, and rounds up to whole packs. Underlay is worked out for the same area.
Before you order
Measure each room at its widest points and add them together. Allow extra for rooms with many corners, alcoves or angled walls, and let the boards acclimatise in the room before fitting.
Laminate is hard-wearing and budget-friendly; engineered wood has a real wood surface and can often be sanded and refinished.

Frequently asked questions
How much extra flooring should I buy?
Around 5–10% on top of the floor area is usual to cover cuts and waste, more for awkward room shapes.
Do I need underlay under laminate?
Yes, underlay smooths small imperfections, reduces noise and, on concrete floors, a version with a vapour barrier protects against moisture.
Laminate or engineered wood?
Laminate is tough and economical. Engineered wood has a real timber top layer for a natural look and can usually be refinished.
